I’m an individual who is affected by COVID-19. Can the Fund help me?  We understand many individuals and families have been affected and more will continue to be impacted. Community Foundation Serving Western Virginia’s COVID-19 Disaster Relief Grants will provide resources to nonprofit organizations that have experience supporting vulnerable communities across the Roanoke Valley.

While the fund is not able to provide direct grants to individuals, it will support local nonprofit organizations that provide direct services and support. What can the funds be used for? While funds are unrestricted and may be used as your organization sees fit, it is expected that the funds will address the needs of the organization and the population it serves as it relates to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The application will ask how you intend to use the funds only so we may better understand your organization’s unique needs.

How much is available?  Funding is limited and will be available until depleted. 

Who is eligible?  

  • Be a qualified organization that has been established as a 501c(3) nonprofit for a minimum of 36 months;
  • Be located in, and serving the Cities of Roanoke and Salem, and the Counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig, Roanoke, and Franklin; and
  • Have been directly impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak

How often will grants be awarded? We will award grants approximately twice a month beginning in April. The total amount given each month will depend on available funding and applications received.

Is there an application deadline? No, this is a rolling process and there is no deadline. You may submit an application at anytime while this program is active. If your organization is not selected for a grant in one month, it will remain eligible for funding in subsequent months. There is no need to submit your application again.

Can my organization receive more than one grant? Yes, if you receive a grant one month, you may apply again to be considered for funding in subsequent months. However, those organizations that have not yet received funding through this program will be given priority.
